It's time to 'Escape to Paradise'... 5 minutes with founder Sacha Alagich

Escape 11 HR.jpg

Escape to Paradise was founded 12 years ago in Sydney's Iconic Manly Beach and the brand has captured the imagination of the world with its vibrant island lifestyle offering and it’s goal to bring holiday bliss to everyday life.

Escape to Paradise designs a wide range of premium luxury homewares and accessories, from bags to cushions to beach towels.  Founder Sacha Alagich is a global gypsetter and surfing enthusiast who travels regularly to exotic destinations around the world to help build the narrative behind her brand.

Sacha has always felt that there needs to be more to a label than for it just to be pretty, the brand needs to be a vehicle for change. 'I want to use the brand to be able to make a difference and support causes that I am so passionate about, such as environmental projects to plant trees in rainforest regeneration areas or marine conservation programs, so it isn't just about the products but about the difference we can make in the world' she says.

How/when did Escape to Paradise begin?

My initial dream for Escape to Paradise began when I was only 7 years old on a holiday to Fiji where I made tropical flower decorations to sell to guests at the resort I was staying at, from that moment onwards I always knew that one day I wanted to have my own business, especially something inspired by beautiful tropical destinations…then 10 years ago that dream finally came true when I launched our first collection of handbags and travel accessories. We had humble beginnings at the Bondi and Kirribilli Markets as most brands begin this way, shortly after we discovered the world of trade shows and from there the brand grew over time to now be a truly global brand where our designs can be found throughout the US, Canada, Europe, South East Asia, New Zealand and of course Australia.

How would you describe your current collection?
Our current collection is inspired by the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki Beach. I just love the vibrant colours and tropical feeling when visiting this iconic hotel, I wanted to translate this into a collection where everyone can have the feeling of paradise in their own home.

Escape 44 LR.jpg
Escape 13 LR.jpg

What inspires you when designing a new range?
I think of the most beautiful destinations around the world and ways to translate this into products through the colours and patterns associated with the feelings from these destinations.

Your top 3 tips for creating a luxurious tropical space?
1. You can’t go wrong with palm trees. Having either real palms or décor items with palm tree motifs will always set the tone for a tropical space.

2. Use furniture in natural materials such as cane or wood to create an earthy feel.

3. Let the sun shine in. Having lots of natural light in a space will always make a space feel more coastal. Use lots of white for the walls, upholstery and light shear curtains so the light will bounce off these surfaces and give the room a fresh tropical feeling.

Where can we buy your beautiful products?
We have over 300 stockists Australia wide in all of the major coastal locations so our products can be found at most beachside suburbs, such as Swish in Warriewood, NSW, Coasting Home, Forster, NSW, Whitebeach in Perigean Beach, QLD, Biku Furniture in Bundall, QLD. We also have an online store www.escapetoparadise.com.au

Escape 36 LR.jpg
Escape 48 HR.jpg

What can we expect next from Escape to Paradise?
Our next collection will be inspired by the islands of Tahiti, so keep a look out for beautiful aquas, teals and coral motifs to reflect the beauty of these islands.

We love that you give back by donating to not for profit charities, why is this so important to you and your business?
I always believe in helping to make the world a more beautiful place and by giving back to charities who help conserve the environment this is a way to help have a positive impact on the world. For every item sold on our website this helps plant trees in rainforests around the world where they have been depleted.

What is your favourite tropical holiday destination?
I have so many favourite tropical destinations around the world it is hard to list them all, but my top places to visit are Tahiti, Hawaii, the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

The stunning new 'Rumah' Collection by Sage x Clare has landed!

Inspired by the tranquil village vibes and the soothing colours of twilight, Rumah – meaning ‘home’ in Indonesian – encapsulates that rare charm of authentic Bali. A colour palette featuring the rich blue-greens of the ocean, the pinks, oranges and reds of a summer sunset, lush botanical greens and earthy sand tones offers a bold yet soothing combination. And floral motifs, organic shapes and playful imagery are set against rich textures, ensuring this collection delivers an expression of laid-back luxury.

Indoor and outdoor living are taken care of thanks to woven waffle towels and playful accessories, some past Sage x Clare favourites have been re-released in fresh colour-ways and, as always, embroidery, hand-weaving, beadwork, tassels, shag and tufting offer a nod to authentic artisanal techniques. Rumah is a modern take on traditional design, with the same level of detail and craftsmanship you’ve come to expect from Sage x Clare.

Create your own tropical escape with this wide-ranging combination of homewares that celebrates the very best of Bali in a fabulous mish-mash of pattern, colour and texture.

Patterned Perfection - AURA HOME 18/19 Collection

inca_towels.jpg

One of our favourite Australian homewares brands AURA HOME has released their 18/19 Collection - Inca Bedlinen & Bath and we could not be more in love with what we are seeing!

Inca bed linen is available in both a luscious pink clay for the blush lovers as well as in black for those of us (me!) who love a monochrome palette! The Inca design is a circular display of abstract geometry, centred on an expanse of the highest quality natural cotton sateen, finished off with a matching piping trim. Inca is available in quilt cover sets, complete with two standard pillowcases and european pillowcases.

And we absolutely adore that the Inca design has also been released in a stunning new collection of jacquard towels in black, dove and pink clay.  Aura Home towels are renowned for being luxuriously soft, absorbent, and pure cotton. All towels are available in bath sheets, bath towels, bath mats and hand towels.

Aura Home is one drool worthy homewares brand, you can spend hours scrolling their Instagram feed getting inspired by their stunning collection of homewares and bedlinen… I am 100% guilty of spending way too much time on the gram crushing over their stunning seasonal photoshoots, but it’s just too good not too! Founder of Aura Home, Tracie Ellis and her talented team have recently opened their first bricks and mortar store, the ‘Aura Home Concept Store’ in Malvern Road, Malvern, VIC.

“There are a lot of customers who like to touch and feel our product and be inspired. Our product is very texture driven, our new store is our place to meet our loyal customers and new customers, and inspire them to create beautiful spaces in their homes.” says Tracie.

The beautifully refurbished, heritage-listed building features a series of individual room spaces, impeccably styled by the team. For the first time ever, fans of the brand can see, touch and feel products as they stroll through the store, moving between the dining and living rooms, and on to the bedroom and bathroom area.

“We wanted our customers to be inspired by how the products could work in their spaces. We have a living room area, to showcase our cushions and throws, a dining area, featuring our ceramics and linen, a beautiful bedroom space for our sheets and quilt covers and a bathroom area draped with our beautiful towels.” Says Tracie.

Bold & Bright - OON release their AW18 collection ‘Falgun’

Styling - Greenhouse Interiors | Photography - Armelle Habib

This season Oon goes bolder and brighter with their latest collection entitled 'Falgun'. Falgun is the Nepalese calendar month synonymous with the big colour festival 'holi' which is held at the beginning of each spring. The collection is inspired by the ideals of the festival - both the experience  and the observance. The colours of 'holi' are bright, contrasting, fun and joyous and that is exactly what the 'Falgun' collection embodies.

We love Oon's use of geometric patterns and tailored stitching, which are paired back with the use of natural textures, simple structures and organic shapes. Throughout the range their is a juxtaposition of carefully considered textures all perfectly complementing each other.

The AW18 Collection is all about celebrating colour by encouraging the use of bold colours, mixing and matching patterns and shapes and making a statement with interiors.

Oon continue to stay true to their core values by using traditional techniques, such as 'kantha' stitching from India, while always adding a touch of their signature contemporary style and edge.

Featuring shags, tailored stitching and organic shapes alongside muted shades of hazelnut, soft pink, navy with dashes of red and gold, we just know that you are going to love this range just as much as we do!

A weekend styling retreat with the best in the business... Julia Green, from Greenhouse Interiors

Photographer: Stephanie Rooney

Photographer: Stephanie Rooney

If Julia Green had a dollar for every time she has been asked for advice on establishing a career in the interior styling world, she could very likely pack up her props and trade them in for a life of luxury.

As a leader in the industry, it’s a question Julia fields on a daily basis, from budding stylists of all ages and from all backgrounds.

So, armed with a wealth of industry information and her own styling secrets, the founder of Greenhouse Interiors decided to share her knowledge with those looking to establish themselves in this highly-sought-after field.

GI_workshop_18march_lowres01.jpg

She recently threw open the doors to her Barwon Heads home for a weekend-long workshop where six aspiring stylists, who were given the opportunity to learn what it takes to turn a passion for interior styling into a career.

The workshop covered all aspects of the industry, from understanding personal style to working with photographers and other suppliers, as well as how to win business in this highly-competitive field. Guest speaker Samantha Firestone also shared her knowledge of the importance of digital strategy, social media and marketing.

GI_workshop_18march_lowres06.jpg

A morning yoga session and an evening glass or two of bubbles offered a perfect contrast to the otherwise fast-paced schedule.

The workshop culminated in a professional photo shoot where participants brought to life their interior concepts using a new range of artworks by Greenhouse Interiors artists Brent Rosenberg, Morgan Jamieson, Prudence Caroline and Kimmy Hogan.

The resulting imagery showcased students’ personal style combined with their newly-garnered interior styling knowledge, and ensured each left with full hearts and minds as well as magazine-worthy folio pieces to rival the best in the business.

GI_workshop_18march_lowres08.jpg

‘This retreat was a money-can’t-buy experience and was one of the best weekends of my life! Although we were six complete strangers and have different end goals, we all seemed to be at the same stage. Waiting at the start line, a little unsure how to actually start or to reach the next stage. Julia’s energy and passion is contagious and she quickly got everyone to open up and really trust each other in an incredibly supportive environment. Although this weekend was about styling, it was just as much about backing yourself and just going for it. By the end of the weekend, we all left with our hearts and inspiration cups overflowing – not to mention some beautiful imagery to compliment our portfolio’s!’ said participant Alex.

Bright futures, and a solid game plan now await this group of creatives armed with the passion and know how.

Boutique bedding with personality by Siesta Home...

Introducing NOMAD by Siesta Home

Siesta Home is a Melbourne-based boutique-bedding brand created by Australian Winter Olympian Johanna Lyle. The collection is bold, fun and full of life, an invitation to play.

Drawing on influences from her European travels and colourful memories, Siesta Home collections are a postcard from Joh's former life as a snowboarder.

"I remember being the most colourful snowboarder when I was in the 2006 & 2010 Winter Olympics."

Now a mother of 2, Joh pursued her passion for interior styling after retiring from her Olympic career. Her artful eye and her penchant for colour resulted in a 7 month long passion project renovating her Melbourne home. While renovating, Joh's natural gravitation towards colours, patterns and prints led her to start designing her own unique bedding collections, with a plan to inspire people to have fun and experiment with their bedding too.

Siesta Home’s latest collection entitled ‘NOMAD” is inspired by a feeling of wanderlust, being in nature, and starry nights. The natural beauty of all the colours and patterns in the countryside has played its part in the new collection; from the green grass, to the pink and lavender native flowers, grey rock formations, peachy soft sunsets and dusty brown soil that create patterns in the land.

“All these little elements worked together beautifully when designing Nomad, and I hope they spark a feeling of joy in nature and appreciation of its beautiful creations every time they are used.”

“I have always been drawn to colour and experimenting with mixing and matching different tones. Every design has been carefully chosen to complement each other - which is why some are reversible! The concoction of colour and play on patterns is something that gives Nomad its unique personality.” Says Joh.

The range has a super luxurious feel and will transform your bedrooms look and feel in an instant. We love Joh’s motto that “that the simple act of changing your sheets can bring about a positive and refreshing energy to your bedroom. And who doesn't love fresh sheets?!”

Everything in the collection is made from beautiful, high quality materials including cotton linen, cotton velvet and cotton percale to ensure the best nights sleep as well as longevity.

We love that every item in the range is designed to be mixed and matched - for all seasons and to suit your home's interiors. Siesta Home encourages people to match their moods with their bed sheets, a motto I’m definitely taking on board!

The collection includes reversible duvets, standard and euro pillowcases, plush cushions and throws and a beautiful sunset fitted sheet to compliment the unique colour palette.

Blankets with personality... by Slowdown Studio

Benjamin3_1024x1024.jpg

If you know me well, you would know that personally I'm not the biggest fan of pattern in my own home, but the amazing work of Slowdown Studio has changed my mind and has made me really excited!

Slowdown Studio is the creative project of Australian-born, Los Angeles-based designer Marc Hendrick. With a love of playful prints and patterns, Marc selects his favourite illustrators and artists from around the world to collaborate on a series of woven blankets. With limited runs of each style, Slowdown Studio celebrates individuality and artistry, bringing these unique pieces into homes in the form of something as beautiful and versatile as a 100% cotton throw.

Slowdown Studio says "Whether laying around a grassy knoll, sunning on a beach or getting comfy on the couch, Slowdown Studio blankets are the perfect item to help you find a welcome change of pace and comfort. So grab a coffee, a book and a blanket, and slow it down."
