We love finding new, innovative and design savvy brands to share with you, so it’s time to introduce you to my fav new find! The Design Edit is the latest boutique furniture and homewares store to join the interiors space in Australia and can we just say that we are soooo excited that they have arrived!
With a beautifully curated collection of high quality pieces, as well as a dedicated platform for showcasing the handmade creations of local Australian designers, this is the new destination for online interiors.
Melbourne based and family owned, The Design Edit was conceived by husband and wife team Jason and Danni Tan who developed a love for furniture and homewares while designing and building their own home. It was during this time that they were inspired by the transformative power of well selected furniture pieces and The Design Edit was born.
The Design Edit has a curated collection of pieces that includes functional and timeless Scandinavian inspired wooden furniture, iconic replica designer pieces, and stylish homewares, something to suit everyone’s taste, style and budget.
“When curating products for The Design Edit, we only consider items that we’d personally put in our own home,” says co-founder Danni. “When you purchase one of our pieces, you are making that item a part of your life and inviting it into your home – that’s a big deal and it’s a privilege we take seriously!”
Every piece of furniture is of exceptional quality and made from premium materials, such as top grain Italian leather, soft cashmere and solid wood.
The complementing homewares range features beautifully designed, timeless pieces from leading, well-loved brands such as Amalfi, LindDNA and Zakkia.
What we love even more about The Design Edit is that they are showcasing the unique works of talented Australian artisans, supporting local designers and giving them a platform to display their beautiful creations. In the Local Designers Range each unique piece has been lovingly and locally handmade by independent Australian designers, making them truly one of a kind, something that will stand the test of time and become part of your homes identity.
For a long time I have been a fan of uber stylist Sarah Ellison, mostly for her work in Real Living Mag, where she worked as a senior stylist and the style director for over 7 years and also for her down right spot on eye for styling amazing spaces. During her time as stylist she has been on the forefront of interior trends, curating them as well as making them.
Therefore we feel that her latest venture is the perfect fit, a furniture collection all of her own – entitled New Wave. It features furniture and accessories that are inspired by her local Bondi Beach, from key furniture pieces for your lounge room and kitchen, to 70's inspired mirrors and ceramic sculptural pieces. The range is truly impressive, has a distinctly relaxed modern feel and aesthetically is right up my alley!
The collection consists of an array of materials, such as linen, my personal fav terrazzo, marble, brass, leather and travertine. All of these elements work harmoniously together to bring this collection to life, and wow is it divine!
Do you ever walk around your house and feel like it needs a refresh but you don't have the time or the expertise to make it instagram worthy? Nathan + Jac are your saviours, they create handpicked interior accessory packs designed for you to replicate at home.
Each of their full room packs have been designed to help you with the final layer of decorating and feature artwork, furniture, cushions, homewares, books and more.
They have just released their SS18 Collection and it is AMAZING... you will want to throw your whole lounge room out and start again!
Casablanca Collection - Inspired by handcrafted tiles, spices and garden villas, our Casablanca collection is woven like a rich tapestry of colour, culture and romance. Infusing a vibrant colour palette with timeless sophistication and glamour to create an intoxicating allure.
Sandstorm Collection - Inspired by the dunes of the vast Saharan desert, our Sandstorm collection combines a tonal feast of soft, floaty layers of ivory, camel, sand and oatmeal for a calming, serene effect. Like a Bedouin of the desert stumbling upon an oasis, pops of indigo blue, blackened kohl and rust punctuate this sandy backdrop, while glints of brass play like a mirage on the horizon.
Lucy Given is one busy lady. Not only is she paving the way for homeware interiors at her amazing LUC. design store in Hobart, she was also recently named the first ever ‘Retailer of the Year’ at the 2017 Gift and Life Instyle Awards.
Having over 25 years experience in both commercial and residential interior design and retail - Lucy knows a thing or two about what’s happening in the industry, on a national and international scale. This makes Lucy the perfect person to lead several education sessions at Reed Gift Fairs in Melbourne this August. Each session is tailored specifically to those within this ever-growing industry.
In preparation for the Reed Gift Fairs Melbourne event, Lucy has shared some of her professional interior trend predictions for spring/summer 18 with us... scroll down!
Scandinavian influences – this is an interior trend that has continued to flourish and evolve over the years. Interior trends for 2018 will combine Scandinavian designs with a much more paired back sensibility. This will include the use of vintage/timeless elements (think classic furniture and lighting from the 60’s and 70’s) teamed with a touch of glamour in metal, leather or glass – creating a sense of comfort and luxury in the home. There will be less of the pale timbers and soft greys this season, and more walnut, natural leather and textural hides.
The return of colour – trending across the industry is the return of bold colour choices and the resurgence of layers and textures. There is a shift in the shades of colours we are used to seeing and a move toward earthy tones, metallics and shiny surfaces that reflect a sense of luxury and wealth. You can also expect to see lots of pink trending this season and more specifically millennial pink. Green will continue to remain a strong trend, however it will take on softer shades of sage, soft pastel celery and avocado. Dark interiors dominate with moody greys and intense blues - which makes me very happy.
The mix of colours with textures – this season we will continue to see the pairing of colours and textures, which includes velvet and natural textiles that will be emulated throughout linens and wools. Along with this, there will be an inclusion of leather, metal accents, concrete and glass mixed with other natural elements such as plants, timbers, stone and textural fabrics.
Marble and natural stone – Expect to see the pairing of marble and natural stone this season, with black being the new white when it comes to marbling. Keep an eye out for stone finishes and tones of grey and black, along with thin profiles in bench and table tops. Black kitchens will also become huge.
All of these trends and more will be showcased at Reed Gift Fairs Melbourne in August 2017. http://www.reedgiftfairs.com.au
Ames Creative Director Ana María Calderón Kayser not only lives between different cultures herself, but since establishing her label, has also been collaborating with designers from different countries to develop furniture and interior accessories that would appeal to the hearts and minds of cosmopolitans.
True to this tradition, the Sala collection designed by Sebastian Herkner is shaped by various cultural influences. For his Ames Sala collection, he ventured into two new territories: Colombia was a new destination for him and, for the first time, he developed an entire home collection.
The result is a range of modern home accessories, including throws, rugs, cushions, vases, baskets and bowls whose forms and colours reflect the diversity and characteristics of Colombia.
“The ames sala collection is inspired by Colombia and its people and by traditional Colombian crafts. The country’s diversity and characteristics are mirrored in the products’ shapes and colours. I was particularly inspired by the archetypical forms I encountered in Bogotá’s Gold Museum, the Museo del Oro. The home collection features my signature style but it is rooted in Colombia, where all the products in the collection are handcrafted according to time-honoured traditions.” - Sebastian Herkner

Shot on location in a converted Gas Regulating House in North Melbourne, Hunting for George's latest collection 'Welcome Home' is every bit as stunning as the apartment itself!
New textiles from Hunting for George feature new materials including linen, chambray, quilting, wool and leather together with their signature pure cotton. There are many stand out pieces in the collection so it’s hard to pick favourites, but some of my picks are the Polar Quilt Cover Set with diagonal quilting. The Sunday Wool Blanket made from 100% wool and the luxurious Leo Navy Leather Cushion, a dreamy deep blue leather cushion with detailed piping.
The newbies in linen include Quilt Cover Sets, Standard and Euro Pillowcases and Tableware in classic White and Charcoal. And their newest must haves are the Leather cushion accessories which are available in Tan and Navy.
The Oliver Coffee Table makes its debut as the latest addition in the Hunting for George Oliver furniture range, all Australian made and available in soft white and matte black.
“We fell in love with this apartment. It’s height, grandeur and age were so welcoming. The open floor plan allowed us the freedom to transform the entire home and tell a comprehensive story. We have a extensive range of products for all areas of the home and we really wanted to showcase this.” Lucy Glade-Wright, Brand Director

The range includes baskets, decorative vases, ceramics, floor cushions, cushion covers, lamp shades, loungers, chairs, rugs and many more great pieces.
We love love love everything Sly do, and their latest collection Reverie is to die for! The wintery hues of the velvet cushions, the beautiful rawness of the new terrazzo coasters and the luxurious scents of their new candles and bath products are all just perfection.
The philosophy behind Reverie is the importance of not quitting your daydream but embracing it. Be brave, be a dream-chaser and get swept away in it.
Lo & Co. Interiors brilliantly blurs the boundaries between art and design. Heralded as Australia’s destination for exotic homewares and tableware; the collection includes vases, planters, marble tables, trays, occasional furniture, glass wear, cushions, throws, candles and candle holders which are sourced from both around the globe and designed in-house. The collection is a beautiful balance between high-shine, brass, feathers, leathers and marble that helps translate classic indulgence into a sleek modern setting. This season their range is a little moodier and features seasonal products and one-off limited treasures.
Discover a treasure-trove of homewares on their online store and add individuality to your décor with finely-crafted pieces that deliver effortless but well considered style.
