Drake House - Austin Design Associates

Originally a 1990’s Neo-Spanish, yellow rendered house with a terracotta roof and dated interior, this stunning home has been renovated inside and out by Austin Design Associates to become an elegant town house.

With an excellent client brief, Austin Design Associates were inspired and encouraged to really transform this home. Externally, the house was painted a concrete grey and the terracotta roof tiles were replaced with slate, a new front door was installed along with steel windows across the rear which gave the house a whole new aesthetic.

Inside, dark parquetry flooring was replaced with large pale oak floorboards and the walls were painted a crisp white. A new kitchen with a refined layout introduced Carrara marble to the black steel window, oak floor and white wall scheme.

Austin Design were able to make small but significant changes to the floor plan, enabling them to enlarge the kitchen, create a butler’s pantry, add extra windows, enlarge existing window openings and create a window seat in the living room.

Studio Tate have completed The Melburnian II, another stunning complete renovation of an entire apartment, following on from the success of The Melburnian renovation.

The overall aesthetic is one of refined luxury, an overall monochromatic palette with subtle touches of brass and stone.

"Acknowledging that good things can very often come in small packages, we borrowed the idea of a jewellery box to create a compact and fabulous space filled with many special elements."  says Studio Tate.

GETAWAY | Mitchelton Winery Luxury Boutique Hotel

Mitchelton Winery Luxury Boutique Hotel

Mitchelton Winery launches $16million Luxury Boutique Hotel in the Goulburn Valley.

Opening December 1st 2017, in the Victorian countryside near Nagambie, The Mitchelton Hotel and Spa provides a new standard in laid back luxury for the region just 90 minutes’ drive from Melbourne.

A personal project of caravan magnate Gerry Ryan and his son Andrew, the $16 million Mitchelton Hotel and Spa is the most recent addition to the family’s spectacular MItchelton Winery Estate, set on the banks of the Goulburn River.

Initially planned for construction upon the property’s founding in 1969 – a vision never realised due to budget constraints – the striking new facility was conceived in partnership with internationally renowned architecture and interior design firm Hecker Guthrie to complement the property’s existing Robin Boyd structures, whilst paying homage to its rural location and wine producing background.

Developed to enhance the tourism drawcard for the region, the Mitchelton Hotel’s 58 rooms is comprised of the 33-sqm ‘River’ or ‘Vineyard’ view categories through to the four 57-sqm suites. Featuring spacious rooms adorned with earthy tones, the hotel was designed to have a relationship with its countryside setting and, in particular, the horse studs around Nagambie.

In guest rooms, floor to ceiling windows open onto private terraces with expansive views of the Goulburn River or Mitchelton Vineyard. Whilst inside, details of the linen curtains, timber joinery, Trevor Mein & David Band artworks create a soft, warm space for guests to unwind.

The Spa, with its expansive views of the surrounds, offers guests regionally inspired spa experiences developed using Uspa products – an Australian collection of pure, natural skincare that combines the botanical wisdom and healing elements of nature.

Upon the banks of the Goulburn River, on a terrace landscaped by Jamie Clapham, sits a 20m infinity pool where guests can embrace the rural setting whilst sampling one of winemaker Travis Clydesdale’s finest tipples.

Opening special room rates for the Mitchelton Hotel start at $289 per night including breakfast for two and a winery tour.

‘The Hotel and Day Spa is something that we wanted to develop early on with our acquisition of the estate,’ said Andrew Ryan, Managing Director of the Mitchelton property.

‘It has always been the missing piece in the puzzle for Mitchelton. Goulburn Valley and Nagambie have so much to offer, we have high hopes that the addition of the accommodation facility will help attract more visitors to the region and boost local tourism.’ said Ryan.

A Nail Salon that dreams are made of...

California Nails, designed by Tom Mark Henry is what dreams are made of...

A far cry from the typical nail salon, California Nails is a new nail salon in Barangaroo, Sydney, designed by TomMarkHenry. It is a soft, feminine and dreamy space inspired by vintage Californian imagery.

Gently dusted in powder pink with hints of blue-green and burgundy to enhance a vintage inspired Golden State vibe, the salon’s curvaceous features, customised fittings and textured accents create a soft and feminine environment that breaks the mould to deliver a nail salon like no other.

Our brief was to reinvent the California Nails brand by creating a soft and feminine environment, a far cry from the typical nail salon that tends to lack warmth and soul,” says Jade Nottage, Director of TomMarkHenry.

The design and construction of California Nails meets Barangaroo’s Green Star rating requirements, minimising the salon’s carbon footprint and contributing to the development’s target to become Australia’s first large-scale carbon neutral community. The TomMarkHenry design team also selected materials that balance the chemical component of the manicure process, using an environmentally friendly clay-based render that helps to clean the air and control humidity.

TomMarkHenry thrives on the creative and collaborative development of unique and exceptional spaces, and its authentic and adaptable approach ensures the dynamic studio continues to push the boundaries of design and expectation with spaces such as California Nails.

Now who wants to meet up for a Mani Pedi? I do!!

We love everything Studio Tate do here at Dot + Pop, and their latest collaboration with their long term client PDG is incredibly beautiful. PDG wanted their headquarters to feel more like a home or hotel rather than an office space and that's what Studio Tate have delivered!

Studio Tate said: "Paying tribute to PDG’s emphasis on high-quality projects and lasting relationships, our concept teased out the subtle sophistication of the tailored suit – made to fit an individual’s exact proportions using the finest fabrics, with every last detail considered, from the hand-stitching to button selection."

The design is split into three main areas: the entry and reception, Managing Director’s office and the work space. The materials range from stone floors, to hexagonal floor plates, to walnut timbers, tan accents, brass detailing and stone cladding. LOVE!

Jackalope Hotel, Mornington Peninsula...

All Photography Sharyn Cairns

All Photography Sharyn Cairns

The Mornington Peninsula has a new luxury hotel - Jackalope. Situated in Merricks North, on an 11-hectare winery planted in 1989, Jackalope has redefined boutique accommodation.

46 designer rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, some with private terraces overlooking the vineyards. Each and every room has a rain shower which is complimented by custom-made bath products by Hunter Lab, with larger rooms also containing deep-soak luxury Japanese baths.

The exceptional rooms and architecture were created by Carr Design Group, who worked in collaboration with Fabio Ongarato Design on the branding and graphics. One of our favourite Melbourne furniture designers Zuster created the elegant handcrafted furniture housed in the rooms and public spaces.

And for an added wow, the hotel entrance welcomes guests with a seven-metre-tall Jackalope sculpture by Melbourne artist Emily Floyd - see above image.

Outside there is a super serene 30-metre infinity pool that offers views out to the vineyard and surrounding gardens - landscaped by Taylor Cullity Lethlean. See below image.

There are two restaurants – a fine dining room, Doot Doot Doot and a more casual restaurant and cellar door, Rare Hare; with interiors designed by Projects of Imagination. The Edwardian homestead 'McCormich House' situated on the property houses the hotel’s bar, Flaggerdoot.

For those unfamiliar with the name, a jackalope is a mythical rabbit-like creature with antlers.

"If luxury is defined by rarity, what is more luxurious than a creature so rare that it exists only in legend,”

The eyebrow-raising names are all in keeping with the central theme: a Flaggerdoot being the collective noun for a group of jackalopes, with the Doot Doot Doot being the leader of a Flaggerdoot.

Links Courtyard House by Inarc Architects...

I've been crushing on the Links Courtyard House by Inarc Architects hard, so it's time to share this absolute beauty with you!

'The building sits on the edge of a links style coastal golf course, tucked in behind a stand of Cypress trees. The house benefits greatly from the golf course outlook, but in its own way, it also contributes to the landscape experience from the golf course side as well.

The house is a single storey holiday home of efficient proportions which favours simplicity over size. A single living/dining/kitchen space, 2 bedrooms, a sitting room and a double garage make up the main areas. The tight planning carries on into the disciplined detailing of the spatial sequence. Restraint is evident in the neutral palette of materials: silver stained blackbutt timber, grey cement render, dark grey steel, oak floor boards and ceiling finishes are used throughout.' says Inarc.

Now hands up if you need a holiday house like this one?!

We've just stumbled across another absolute beauty of a home on Est Living... keep scrolling for some super interior inspo!

This gorgeous beachside home is from Porebski Architects and it is sitting in prime position overlooking Tamarama Beach in Sydney.

"The design embraces bold proportions with the curving black and white exterior. The sweeping white render suggests a modernist sensibility, but counterbalanced by natural materials like stone and timber (not to mention the lush greenery around the home) it becomes something more unique, assured in its style. Helped by interior design from one of our favourite local talents Decus Interiors, this is the beach house we could easily spend all year at." via Est Living.

Fitzroy House by Fiona Lynch Interior Design...

Here is some super luxe and super divine Interior Design inspo for your Wednesday...

Fiona Lynch Office does it again with The Lara Boot Factory in Fitzroy, Melbourne. The space was originally converted into a living space by Ivan Rijavec in the 1980s - most recently Fiona Lynch Office was approached by the new owner "to create a private and relaxing retreat, one that offered space and storage for his extensive collection of books and art, in the midst of a bustling neighbourhood".

Blending old and new, the house embraces a refined interior, with bold use of materials and bespoke joinery, while respectfully preserving the original architectural elements. The darker tones, materials and textures are such a beautiful contrast against the concrete and white walls within the space, it makes me want a black kitchen with black stone so much.

Fitzroy House was awarded a High Commendation in the Single Residential category at the 2016 Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) in Sydney. Fitzroy House was also awarded the Belle Coco Republic Interior Design Award for Best Bathroom in 2016.

I am absolutely crushing on the Cronulla House by Amber Road

Amber Road is a Sydney based design collective dedicated to making inspiring & unique 'inside and outside' spaces, large and small.

They have designed everything from an entire urban park precinct, to a beautiful bespoke lamp, and everything in between. Their aim is to create places and objects that truly reflect their client’s values - with considered, bold concepts and clever detailing, built on robust foundations.

The clients brief for the Cronulla House was 'to keep it as unpretentious and simple as possible'. The end design celebrated a warm minimalism, the uncluttered and the imperfect. A 10m long concrete bench was installed and aimed to bridge the two living areas and encourage a more engaging experience for the end user.

"It feels iconically Australian. It has sophisticated colour and the material combination are very successful. The use of a few beautifully resolved large gestures anchors the overall interior scheme for this house building on this, the interiors are then sensitively and artfully layered to make a visually original home but one with comforting and erudite references to the twentieth century and the particularities of Australian modernism "

- IDEA Awards, 2015
