Completed in 2018, this contemporary luxury residence designed by Mark Shapiro Architects is just a short stroll from the iconic Clovelly Beach. It was approved under the fast tracked ‘complying development’ legislation, circumventing the need for a council development application.
Located on a tight 350sqm block with views to both the front and rear, the design sought to provide shelter from the sometimes harsh western sun and the coastal elements, as well as take advantage of the sunny location and views.
The house was designed for a young family, with 4 bedrooms over 2 levels plus double garage and pool. A centrally located timber clad stair with stucco walls bisects the floor plan and separates the master suite from the children’s rooms.
The external palette of form concrete, render and cedar cladding is designed to resist the elements, yet form a weathered patina over time. The internal finishes reflect the external design, but with an overlay of luxurious finishes including oak, polished concrete, exposed off form walls and ceilings and various marbles.
The result is an effortlessly unfussy luxury home, which the owner's adore.
